Matt Jordan, coach and founder of Trident Performance

Matthew Jordan BS, MS Ed., ACSM-CPT

Fitness has always been a part of my life. I played various sports throughout grade school and high school and started lifting weights during my high school years. I joined the military in 2004, shortly after graduating, where fitness became a major priority. The physical demands of military training pushed me to develop discipline and a strong foundation in strength and conditioning.

After my service, I transitioned into college, enrolling at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. I earned both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Exercise Science. During my time at SIU, I actively participated in and led various clubs and organizations. One of the most impactful experiences was running an exercise and nutrition program for cancer survivors and their caregivers — an experience that reinforced my belief in the power of movement to improve quality of life.

I eventually moved to St. Louis, working service jobs while slowly building my client base. In 2016, I founded Trident Performance and began coaching clients online and training wherever I could, all while leading group fitness classes. I spent a few years working out of a group fitness studio while building the clients and systems I needed to go fully on my own.

In 2020, I took Trident full-time and haven’t looked back.

Along the way, I also pushed myself as an athlete. I earned my professional natural bodybuilding card in 2017 at the Midwest Naturals in DeKalb, Illinois. Two years later, I competed in powerlifting at the 2019 Arnold Classic during the USAPL Battle of the Regions.

That time under the bar — chasing goals, learning patience, showing up consistently — shaped how I coach today. Structure. Accountability. No shortcuts. Just real work, for real results.

Trident isn’t just about training. It’s about building something bigger than fitness — something sustainable, empowering, and built for life outside the gym.
